Parliament yesterday failed to beat the budget deadline as stipulated in the Budget Act 2001, forcing the Deputy Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah, to extend the deadline to September 8.

The Budget Act gives Parliament up to August 31 to have passed the budget but this was not possible this time.
